anybody else our ther interested in discussing-even building-a new society if and when this one crashes? Let's see if we can design something sustainable and compassionate while avoiding the pitfalls of modern consumerism and consumptionism, over population, nonresponsive governments, etc.!

`There are various "intentional communities" attempting just that. Don't know how successful they can be as long as they are embedded within the dominant culture. Example: to get into one of these communities, you usually have to have some capitalist resources to start with, to buy or build your house at a minimum, and many of these communities also depend on the larger market economy and their members therefore need a monetary income. So that excludes those of us who have not managed to get sufficient capitalist resources, or figured out how to secure a steady income.
The harsh reality is, when humans are faced with questions of immediate survival, they put aside the long-term.
