Sure -- this would be as good a place as any to start a permaculture discussion! After all, permaculture is about as green as you can get, right? And it's more than just a style of farming -- it's a lifestyle and a value set. Do you have a food forest yourself?

`In some countries I have visited, permaculture is nothing new at all, but simply the usual village way of life. Campesinos I have spoken to all seem to know just when to plant trees, when the different fruits are in season (yes, the tropics have seasons), which trees' branches are best for feeding to pigs....

I have a small plot where I plan to do a little bit of permaculture, once I get established there. I definitely will plant bananas, probably plantains. I want to learn a lot from the locals about yuca and batata. Those four by themselves can supply most of my needs; and what they do not supply, I can grow in garden plots. The wider community where my place is located produces certified organic cacao, which, though not a food, is permaculture in the sense that it is a tree crop grown under forest canopy.
