A Negative Carbon Footprint Is Possible I have a rational, pragmatic near future vision for a pre-Roddenberry humanity.
At first the changes needed may seem far fetched, but they are far easier to achieve than they may at first appear. As the costs for our, and our ancestral negligence mount, this vision will become ever more attractive. Oddly, what makes these changes seem far fetched now, is their neo-Luddite level of simplicity. To explain; Joules are the units of measurement upon which all future currency should be based. The reason why is that collected renewable kinetic energies, along with photo-voltaic solar & organic, are the only morally meritorious forms of energy which should be encouraged. To preserve a habitable environmental sustainability, personal merit cannot continue to be founded upon dominion addiction. Evading personal consequences for environmental crimes, can no longer be rewarded with privileges as it now is. A person's value to the continuity of the whole of Earth's life cycle, should be directly rewarded and degraded in the form of adjusting their personal purchasing power, as a reflection of their service to the whole, and of their burden upon the future need for environmental mitigation. In light of this, a negative carbon footprint should be sought and is possible, should the personal costs of burdening the future be too intolerably high, to behave too frivolously, too self indulgently and too wasteful, to sustain personal survival. One means of doing this is to make a cost of location habitation and management be that of providing some form of renewable energy to the community. One form which would be most circumstantially preferable, would be that of delivered compressed air, as a manageable inverse impact vehicle of useful energy. In addition, exhaust air can then be de-carbonized by algae & greenhouse farming.
There is no more efficient means of re-sequestering the carbon we've recklessly released over the last 300 years, than via solid organic storage.
